Detroit Red Wings forward Jakub Vrana cleared waivers on Wednesday.

The club had placed the two-time 20-goal scorer on waivers Tuesday. Detroit announced that the winger was assigned to the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins.

Vrana entered the NHL/NHLPA’s player assistance program on Oct. 19 and was reinstated on Dec. 16. He was assigned to the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League on a conditioning loan last week and played three games. That loan was extended this week.

The 26-year-old from Prague, Czechia, registered one goal and one assist in two games with the Red Wings earlier this season.

Vrana has one more season remaining on the three-year contract he signed with Detroit in August 2021. His cap hit is $5.25 million.

Drafted 13th overall by Washington in 2013, Vrana captured the Stanley Cup with the Capitals in 2018. He was traded to Detroit in April 2021 with Richard Panik and two draft picks for Anthony Mantha.

Vrana has 98 goals and 91 assists for 189 points in 323 games over seven seasons with the Capitals and Red Wings.

With Vrana being assigned to the AHL, it opened up a roster spot for the Red Wings to activate Robby Fabbri off injured reserve. Fabbri is scheduled to make his season debut after suffering a torn ACL back on March 10 against the Minnesota Wild.
