Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid may be disappointed about his team’s second-round playoff exit, but referred to it as “progress” nonetheless.

“It is progress — maybe it doesn’t feel like it today. But it is,” McDavid said on Tuesday as the players met the media on locker clean-out day. “We’re a better team than we were last year and we have everybody coming back.

    “It’s just more experiences, really.”

The Oilers were ousted by Las Vegas on Sunday night in Game 6 of their series. Last year, the team advanced to the Western Conference Finals, where they were swept by the eventual Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche.

McDavid himself set career-highs with 64 goals and 153 points during the regular season and is a finalist for the Hart Trophy. He added 20 points in 12 playoff games.
