Shane Wright is headed back to the NHL after a five-game conditioning stint in the American Hockey League.

The Seattle Kraken announced they were recalling Wright, their fourth-overall draft back this past summer, on Monday. Wright was sent down to the Coachella Valley Firebirds on Nov. 20 after collecting just one assist in seven games with the big club. The forward from Burlington, Ont., scored four times during his time with the Firebirds.

Per league rules, the 18-year-old cannot be assigned there full-time due to his age.

The 2022 first-rounder, whom many believed was destined to be selected first overall by Montreal, started the season with the Kraken out of camp but averaged just 8:06 a night. His last appearance was Nov. 5, with Seattle’s success in the standings and chemistry on the ice playing a role in preventing the rookie from cracking the lineup on a regular basis.

Wright is expected to be on the list of players receiving invitations on Monday from Team Canada for the 2023 men’s world junior championship, which takes place in Halifax and Moncton, N.B., from Dec. 26 to Jan. 5.
