Red Wings’ Vrana reinstated by NHL/NHLPA player assistance program

The NHLPA and NHL on Friday reinstated Detroit Red Wings forward Jakub Vrana after almost two months in the league’s player assistance program.

The reinstatement means Vrana returns to available status and has now entered the “follow-up care phase” of the NHL/NHLPA player assistance program.

Vrana, 26, was placed in the program on Oct. 19, but the reasons were not specified. He continued to be paid while receiving treatment and care from the NHL and NHLPA.

Vrana scored 13 goals in 26 games for the Red Wings in 2021-22 after missing 56 games with a shoulder injury that required surgery. The Prague native also notched a goal and an assist in a 5-2 victory over the New Jersey Devils on Oct. 15, his only points in two games this season.

In 323 career regular-season games with Washington and Detroit, the first-round pick (13th overall) in 2014 has 98 goals and 91 assists for 189 points.
