Flames score two fastest goals in team history vs. Sharks

The Calgary Flames came out sizzling to start the second leg of their two-game mini series against the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday.

Only 15 seconds after the puck touched the ice, Tyler Toffoli found the back of the net. Another 15 seconds after that, the puck was put past Reimer again, this time off the stick of Dillon Dube.

The best 30 seconds of hockey by the Flames so far this season?

Hard to argue, when historically, it’s the most productive 30 seconds of hockey that the Flames have played to start a game in team history.

Toffoli’s goal came after a strong forecheck from the Flames put some heavy pressure on the Sharks in their own end. Dube intercepted the puck on the boards, passed it to Lindholm, then gave it back to Dube as he and Toffoli played a quick one-two before the right-winger tucked it in.

Then just 15 seconds later, the Calgary forecheck made their mark again, pressuring a poor clearance attempt from Erik Karlsson into the waiting stick of Toffoli. He sent the puck in Lindholm’s direction who found Dube for the second score.

With those two tallies, the Flames broke their franchise record for the two fastest goals to begin a game. The previous mark of 32 seconds was set back on March 11, 1987 against the Hartford Whalers.

The quick back-to-back is tied at fifth for the all-time fastest two goals to begin a game in NHL history.
