The Vancouver Canucks announced Thursday that forward Tanner Pearson will miss the remainder of the 2022-23 season after undergoing a second hand surgery due to a setback in his initial recovery.

Pearson, 30, sustained the injury to his hand back in November. The team had originally set his recovery timeline at 4-6 weeks, which would have seen him return around mid-December or later.
In 14 games to begin the season, Pearson had a goal and five assists. He has not played since the Canucks’ 5-2 loss to the Montreal Canadiens on Nov. 9.
The Canucks originally obtained the Kitchener, Ont. native during the 2018-19 season, in a trade that sent defenceman Erik Gudbranson to the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Drafted 30th overall by the Los Angeles Kings in 2012, Pearson won a Stanley Cup with the team in 2014. Over 590 career NHL games with the Kings, Penguins and Canucks, Pearson has collected 133 goals and 139 assists.
The loss of Pearson is just the latest blow to the struggling Canucks, who sit 26th in the league with a record of 17-20-3.
