Auston Matthews‘ status for Saturday’s game against Boston is up in the air according to Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe after the star winger woke up sick on Thursday.

The superstar scorer is already dealing with an undisclosed injury that has held him out of Toronto’s last two games against the Nashville Predators and Detroit Red Wings.
In his absence, the Maple Leafs have gone 1-1-0, including a 4-1 loss to the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday night that snapped a nearly four-year unbeaten streak for the Maple Leafs against their division rival.
Matthews has responded to his Hart trophy campaign a year ago with a notable lack of zip this season, scoring at a dramatically diminished pace compared to years past. While speculation has circled that his current injury could be related to a wrist problem that sidelined him for parts of last year, the Maple Leafs have been tight-lipped on exactly what is ailing their franchise star.
In 41 games this year, Matthews has 20 goals and 27 assists for 47 points. Toronto will hope to get their star pivot back in time for Hockey Night in Canada as the Leafs face the juggernaut Boston Bruins this Saturday at 7:00 PM ET.
