The winger went down with 19.3 seconds left in the 5-2 win against the Wild on a non-contact injury. Pacioretty was skating with the puck near the goal and the boards when he pulled up and grabbed at the back of his lower right leg.
“It doesn’t look good. I mean, we don’t know, but it doesn’t look good,” said head coach Rod Brind’Amour after the game. “Hopefully, it’s not as bad as we think, but I’m not too optimistic right now.”
After the Hurricanes’ practice on Friday, Brind’Amour told reporters that the team would know more about the extent of Pacioretty’s injury in a few days.
Pacioretty was acquired by Carolina from the Vegas Golden Knights in the 2022 offseason, but did not make his Hurricanes debut until Jan. 5 after suffering an Achilles injury in August.
The 34-year-old has three points, all of which are goals, in five games this season for the Hurricanes.
