Former Vancouver Whitecaps striker Tosaint Ricketts has announced his retirement from professional soccer.
The 35-year-old Edmonton native will stay on with the Major League Soccer team as a liaison of club and player engagement.
Ricketts played for clubs in eight countries across his 14-year career, including Toronto FC, Finland’s Myllykosken Pallo and Lithuanian side FK Suduva Marijampole.
He amassed 22 goals and five assists in 119 MLS appearances, including seven goals in 65 outings for the Whitecaps.
He was with TFC from 2016 to ’18, scoring 13 goals in 51 appearances and helping the team to a treble in 2017 when it won the MLS Cup, the Supporters’ Shield and the Canadian Championship.
Ricketts also scored 17 goals in 61 appearances for Canada’s national men’s team in the CONCACAF Gold Cup, World Cup qualifying and international friendly competition.
The veteran forward says in a release that he can’t help looking back at his career with a “sense of joy and fulfilment.”
“I am committed to do everything in my power to push the game of soccer in this country and provide future generations with all the opportunities to achieve their dreams,” he said.
