Thompson left Thursday’s game against the Minnesota Wild with what appeared to be a non-contact injury. Early in the third period, the rookie netminder scrambled to make a save on Minnesota forward Frederick Gaudreau. After pushing off on his right leg, Thompson turned over and stayed face down on the ice before the referees stopped the play.
He appeared to grab the back of his left leg while down, then had to be assisted off the ice while putting no pressure on his injured lower side.
In a corresponding move, the Golden Knights have recalled netminder Laurent Brossoit from the AHL affiliate Henderson Silver Knights.
Thompson, 25, was named to the 2023 NHL All-Star Game. He has a .914 save percentage in 36 games this season.
The Golden Knights are currently first in the Pacific Division with 66 points through 53 games.
