Fresh off a trip to the Super Bowl with the Eagles, Gannon is expected to become the Cardinals’ next head coach after the team fired Kliff Kingsbury at the conclusion of the 2022-23 season.
Gannon’s defence in Philadelphia led the league in sacks with 70, finished second-best in terms of yards allowed and seventh-best in terms of points allowed per game.
The Cardinals’ opening is the final head coach vacancy in the league after the Colts also hired Shane Steichen on Tuesday. Both coordinators for the Super Bowl runners-up will now depart for their own head coaching opportunities.
Gannon, 40, was hired as the Eagles defensive coordinator in 2021 when Nick Sirianni was named head coach. He has been been a member of six different NFL teams since he started in the league back in 2007.
The Cardinals had a disappointing season under Kingsbury last season, finishing last in the NFC West with a record of 4-13.
