The Ottawa Senators have acquired defenceman Jakob Chychrun from the Arizona Coyotes in exchange for a conditional first-round pick in 2023, a conditional second-round pick in 2024 and a second-round pick in 2026.

The 2023 first-round pick is top-five protected, and if met, becomes a 2024 unprotected first-round pick. Also, the second-round pick in 2024 will become a 2024 first-round pick top-10 protected if the Senators make the 2023 Eastern Conference finals. And if that condition is met, the pick becomes an unprotected 2025 first-round pick.

Chychrun has been the subject of trade rumours for more than a year and was scratched from four straight games for trade-related reasons.
“A defenceman we’ve coveted, Jakob is big and plays imposing,” Senators GM Pierre Dorion said in a team-released statement. “He possesses a quality skill set; he defends hard and is highly skilled. He uses his heavy shot with accuracy and is effective at creating offence as a threat at the offensive blue line.”

The 24-year-old has spent his entire seven-year career with the Coyotes after being drafted 16th overall by the club in 2016. He has seven goals and 28 points in 36 games this season.
The Boca Raton, Fla., native is under contract through 2024-25 with a cap hit of $4.6 million in each of the next two seasons.
