Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc forced to retire from Bahrain GP

It’s a new season but an all too familiar result for Ferrari and Charles Leclerc.

The Ferrari driver was forced to retire from the Bahrain Grand Prix after completing 41 laps while running in a podium position with an electrical issue.

Before the race, the team put a new power electrical component in the car, which means Leclerc has already used up 50 per cent of his energy store allocation for the year.

After retiring from the race, Leclerc was understandably devastated with the result.

Last season the Ferrari driver was forced to retire three times while being in a podium position.

Strategy decisions also cost the team valuable points in the constructor standings.

Leclerc’s teammate Carlos Sainz moved up into P3 but was unable to fend off Fernando Alonso of Aston Martin and finished fourth.

Meanwhile, rival Red Bull Racing cruised to a 1-2 finish with Max Verstappen taking the checkered flag followed by teammate Sergio Perez.
