Ottawa Senators forward Derick Brassard suffered a serious injury to his right leg and had to be helped off the ice during Thursday’s game against the Philadelphia Flyers.

As teammate Shane Pinto shot and scored the puck, Brassard got tied up with Flyers goalie Felix Sandstrom. Brassard’s right leg appeared to bend awkwardly and he fell to the ice in pain as the rest of the Senators celebrated the goal.

After being looked at by trainers, Brassard was helped off the ice and down the tunnel to the Senators room.

Brassard, 35, has 13 goals and 23 points in 62 games with the Senators this season. The 16-year veteran recently played his 1,000th career game.

Earlier in the game Senators defenceman Travis Hamonic was forced out with a lower-body injury after being hit while setting up teammate Austin Watson for a goal.
