Blue Jays starter Chris Bassitt exits game with lower back tightness

Toronto Blue Jays starter Chris Bassitt exited Monday’s game against the Chicago White Sox with right lower back tightness, the team said.

Bassitt bounced a pitch to the plate in the seventh inning and then motioned to the dugout for the trainer. Manager John Schneider also came out for the visit.

Zach Pop replaced Bassitt with the Blue Jays leading 4-2.

Bassitt entered the game 2-2 with a 5.40 ERA in his first year with the Blue Jays.

After a nightmarish first start in which he gave up nine runs in 3.1 innings, Bassitt has looked far more comfortable.

The right-hander has gone at least six innings in each of his next four starts, never giving up more than two runs.

Bassitt signed a three-year, $63-million deal with the Blue Jays in the off-season.

Bassitt broke into the majors with the White Sox in 2014 and also has pitched for the Oakland A’s and New York Mets.
