Shohei Ohtani reached an impressive milestone in Tuesday’s game against the Houston Astros, surpassing Babe Ruth for the most career pitching strikeouts among players with at least 100 career home runs.

It is the latest landmark for the six-year MLB veteran as the Los Angeles Angels star continues to make his case as one of the greatest dual-threats of all time.
Over 600 games, all with the Angels, Ohtani is slashing .269/.355/.531 with 134 home runs and 364 RBIs, while also racking up a 32-14 record and a 2.92 ERA as a pitcher.
After dominating Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball Organization, Ohtani signed with the Angels in 2017. He won AL Rookie of the Year in 2018 before breaking out in 2021 — that season, he won AL MVP and a Silver Slugger award.
In 2022, Ohtani finished fourth in AL Cy Young voting. He hit a home run against all three of the pitchers who finished ahead of him.
Ohtani signed a one-year, $30 million deal with the Angels last October, but with the team’s inability to build a contender around their superstar, the 28-year-old could be moving on after this season.
Ohtani is still 580 home runs behind Ruth (714).
