The Toronto Raptors front office met with Spain national team coach Sergio Scariolo while they search for a new head coach, according to Spanish outlet Marca.
Marca journalist Jesus Sanchez reported that Raptors president Masai Ujiri and general manger Bobby Webster flew to Italy to meet Scariolo, who also coaches Italian side Virtus Bologna, at the Majestic Hotel in Bologna on Thursday.
Scariolo served as an assistant under Nick Nurse in Toronto from 2018-21.
The 62-year-old Italian left his position with the Raptors to take on a head coaching role with Virtus, where he has since won two Italian Supercups and one Eurocup.
Should he be hired, Scariolo would become one of only two European head coaches in NBA history. Igor Kokoškov, currently an assistant with the Dallas Mavericks, became the first European head coach in league history with the Phoenix Suns, in 2018.
