Rosenthal and Rome reported that the local buyer is Dan Doyle Jr., of the Tampa-based DEX Imaging.
The Rays are also drawing interest from potential buyers looking to relocate the AL East franchise to a market suited for MLB expansion. Back in 2021, MLB commissioner Rob Manfred said that he would consider an expansion fee in the range of $2.2 billion.
Rosenthal and Rome further reported that current owner Stuart Sternberg is still set on building a new $1.2 billion stadium in the Tampa-St. Petersburg area. The team’s lease on Tropicana Field is set to expire in 2027.
