Canada’s Bianca Andreescu storms back against Azarenka, advances at French Open

Canada’s Bianca Andreescu earned a hard-fought 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory over No. 18 seed Victoria Azarenka in the first round of the French Open on Tuesday.

The 22-year-old did not start well, finding herself a set and a break down. However, she fought her way back into the match, breaking back immediately in the second set and finding her mojo as the game went on.

Andreescu, from Mississauga, Ont., converted her break point opportunities relatively efficiently and used her aggressive groundstrokes well.

The World No. 42’s win is all the remarkable considering the fact that she tore two ligaments in her left ankle just two months back during the Miami Open.

Andreescu joins Leylah Fernandez and Denis Shapovalov as the Canadians who are still alive at Roland-Garros. Canadians Felix Auger-Aliassime and Rebecca Marino lost in the first round
