Blue Jays place Bassitt on paternity list, recall Jackson from triple-A

The Toronto Blue Jays have officially placed starting pitcher Chris Bassitt on paternity list, the team announced Saturday.

In a corresponding move, the Blue Jays recalled right-hander Jay Jackson from triple-A Buffalo. The 35-year-old will be active for the second game of Toronto’s three-game series against the New York Mets.

Bassitt started Toronto’s series opener at Citi Field Friday night, throwing eight strikeouts through 7.2 innings in a 3-0 win. He took a flight to Toronto directly after exiting the game to join his wife Jessica who is due to give birth to their second child.

Bassitt has a 3.41 ERA and a 4-6 record over 12 starts for the Blue Jays this season.

The Blue Jays have also allowed the release of pitcher Drew Hutchison on Saturday.

According to Sportsnet’s Arden Zwelling, the 32-year-old exercised an out clause in his minor-league deal. The Blue Jays granted his release from the organization.
