The Atlanta Hawks are finalizing a trade that will send starting forward John Collins to the Utah Jazz for veteran Rudy Gay and a future second-round pick, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski was first to report on Monday.
The trade allows the Hawks to create roster flexibility by moving Collins and the $78 million left on his contract over the next three seasons.

Wojnarowski reported that Gay exercised a $6.4-million player option for next season. The trade can’t be formalized until free agency officially opens on July 6.
Collins, 25, has been the subject of trade rumours for years. This season, he started a career-high 71 games while averaging 13.1 points and 6.5 rebounds.
Gay, who turns 37 this summer, is entering his 18th NBA season. Last season, in 56 games off the bench, he averaged 5.2 points and 2.9 rebounds.
