Lionel Messi is coming to Major League Soccer, but he’s not the only one who appears to be cashing in off of it.
Tickets on reseller website vividseats.com were being listed for as much as US$56,901 to attend Friday’s Leagues Cup match at DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale against Mexican team Cruz Azul, which would be Messi’s debut with Inter Miami.
Messi, 36, who has played with European giants Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain and won the World Cup in December with Argentina, is expected to train for the first time with Inter Miami on Tuesday, with an eye toward playing Friday.
The Associated Press reported that Messi’s deal to join Inter Miami will be for 2 1/2 seasons and will pay him between $50 million and $60 million annually — putting the total contract value between $125 million and $150 million in cash alone.
According to vividseats.com, tickets for Friday’s game start at $260, with an average price of $28,580.
Still, that could be considered a steal when compared to what is being asked for Inter Miami’s subsequent game. A single ticket behind the goal for the Leagues Cup match against Atlanta on July 25 has an asking price of $110,339.
