The 23-year-old Quebec City native was Canada’s top hitter at the World Baseball Classic last month, slashing .538/.667/1.154 with two homers and two RBI in 13 at-bats.
The Twins had an open roster spot after Joey Gallo (intercostal strain) was placed on the injured list on Tuesday.
The Twins selected Julien in the 18th round of the 2019 MLB Draft. He was hurt playing for Canada at the 2019 Pan American Games and had to undergo Tommy John surgery, delaying his pro debut until 2021.
Julien has slashed .290/.421/.548 with two homers and four RBI in 31 at-bats for St. Paul this year.
He is the No. 96 prospect in baseball in the MLB Pipeline rankings.
“He’s been better than a good hitter,” manager Rocco Baldelli said in spring training, per MLB.com. “He’s been a guy that has already made a name for himself. He needs to continue that. But he swings the bat at a level probably better than most guys you’re going to find, even prospects.”
