The second year of Texier’s two-year contract will be tolled to next season, and he will be a restricted free agent in the summer of 2024.
Texier, 23, hasn’t played for the Blue Jackets since breaking his finger in January of 2022 and was granted a leave of absence in March of that year. In August of 2022, the Blue Jackets announced Texier would not return for the 2022-23 season for personal reasons. He instead played for the ZSC Lions in Switzerland, where he had 13 goals and 35 points in 46 games.
“Alexandre Texier is an outstanding, young player who is an important part of our team and we are excited that he will be rejoining the club as expected next season,” Blue Jackets general manager Jarmo Kekalainen said in a statement. “His well-being has been our sole priority and we couldn’t be happier that he is ready to resume what is a very promising NHL career at this time.”
Texier has 22 goals and 49 points in 123 NHL games since making his debut in the 2018-19 season.
