Espinal suffered the injury after being hit by a pitch from Gerrit Cole in Saturday’s loss to the New York Yankees. The injury forced Espinal to leave that game with a right wrist contusion but x-rays afterwards revealed he had avoided a more serious injury.
Espinal was an all-star last season but has struggled in a platoon role at second this year. In 13 games he is hitting .114/.184/.200 with four hits and four RBIs.
The Blue Jays host the White Sox in an afternoon game Wednesday. Yusei Kikuchi will start for Toronto opposite Michael Kopech. The first pitch is scheduled for 1:07 p.m. ET/ 10:07 a.m. PT on Sportsnet and SN NOW.
