Seattle Mariners star Julio Rodriguez broke Toronto Blue Jays star Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s single-round record with 41 home runs in Monday’s Home Run Derby in Seattle.
Guerrero Jr. hit 40 home runs in the semifinal of the 2019 Derby, topping Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Joc Pederson in a swing-off.
With “Home Sweet Home” inscribed on his bat, Rodriguez stepped to the plate in front of the hometown Mariners’ crowd and cleared the wall 41 times, giving him the second most Derby-dingers ever.
Rodriguez put on his record-breaking performance while eliminating two-time champ Pete Alonso for the second-straight year, sending the Twitterverse into a frenzy.
