Vrana entered the NHL/NHLPA’s player assistance program on Oct. 19 and was reinstated on Dec. 16.
The 26-year-old from Prague, Czechia, rejoined the Red Wings for practice the day he was available to return.
“There’s bigger things than hockey in life and you have to get it in order,” Vrana said according to The Associated Press. “You have to make some decisions that are important in your life and then hockey.”
Vrana has one goal and one assist in two games this season. He recorded 13 goals and six assists for 19 points in 26 games last year.
Drafted 13th overall by Washington in 2013, Vrana captured the Stanley Cup with the Capitals in 2018. He was traded to Detroit in April 2021 with Richard Panik and two draft picks for Anthony Mantha. Vrana has 98 goals and 91 assists for 189 points in 323 games over seven seasons with the Capitals and Red Wings.
