Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Matt Murray is dealing with an ankle injury that was aggravated during warmup prior to Friday’s game against the Ottawa Senators.
Head coach Sheldon Keefe confirmed that Ilya Samsonov will start in goal Sunday against the Washington Capitals. The 25-year-old allowed six goals on 34 shots after he was forced to start on short notice against the Senators.
Murray will undergo testing to determine the severity of the ankle injury. In 19 games this season, the 28-year-old has an 11-5-2 record with a 2.73 goals-against average and a .911 save percentage.
Defenceman T.J. Brodie said after Saturday’s practice that he feels good to play against the Capitals but has to wait for clearance from the medical staff to return to game action.
