Canada’s men’s national soccer team has officially qualified for the men’s World Cup 2026, FIFA announced in a release on Tuesday.
Canada is one of three teams set to host the 2026 World Cup, splitting hosting duties with both Mexico and the United States. Both Mexico and the U.S. have also been granted automatic berths due to hosting the event.
Host countries being granted automatic berths is common practice for the Cup, however, this is the first time three countries have ever hosted the event at once. Japan and South Korea co-hosted in 2002 and were both given automatic exemptions into the tournament.
The Canadian men qualified for just the second World Cup in team history in 2022, and the first in over 30 years with their only other appearance coming back in 1986.
Canada lost all three of its game at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, but there is no doubt the men’s team made incredible strides under manager John Herdman, including the first-ever Canadian goal scored at a men’s World Cup by superstar Alphonso Davies.
The 2026 World Cup will be hosted by 16 cities across the three countries, including Toronto and Vancouver. The worldly event is scheduled to start on Jun. 3, 2026 and conclude on Jul. 8, 2026.
