Bianca Andreescu will miss an indefinite amount of time with two torn ligaments in her left ankle.
Andreescu was forced to retire from her fourth-round match at the Miami Open on Monday night after suffering an apparent leg injury. In a tweet after the injury, Andreescu said it was “the worst pain I’ve ever felt.”
In an updated statement Wednesday, Andreescu said she is going to take her recovery day-by-day and that she was optimistic that she’ll be back on the court soon.

Facing off against No. 18 seed Ekaterina Alexandrovaat, the 22-year-old collapsed as she attempted to run down the ball during the third game of the second set.
Andreescu could immediately be heard crying and even exclaiming at one point, “I’ve never felt this kind of pain before.” She received medical attention for several minutes before being taken off the court in a wheelchair.
Andreescu, a Mississauga, Ont. native, has dealt with various injuries and setbacks throughout her career, including a torn meniscus in her left knee just months after she won the 2019 US Open.
Her exit at the Miami Open marks the third time she has been forced to retire at the tournament. In 2019 she retired due to a shoulder injury in the fourth round, and in 2021 she retired from the final with an ankle injury.
She took six months off to recover from injuries returning at the Stuttgart Open in April 2022.
The 22-year-old is ranked 31st in the world and is now working with Christophe Lambert who took over for Sven Groeneveld as her coach.
