Forward Mitchell Marner plus defencemen Mark Giordano and Jake McCabe will not be in the lineup Sunday when the Toronto Maple Leafs host the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday.
Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe said Giordano and McCabe are getting the night off while Marner is recovering from “bumps and bruises.”
The 25-year-old Marner has played in all 75 games for the Maple Leafs so far during the regular season and leads the team with 95 points (28 goals and 67 assists).
Giordano has four goals and 20 assists in 74 games with the Maple Leafs this season. The 39-year-old also ranks second on the team in plus/minus with a plus-26 rating.
McCabe has one goal and two assists in 15 games with Toronto since arriving ahead of the trade deadline from the Chicago Blackhawks. The 29-year-old has three goals and 20 assists in 70 games combined with Chicago and Toronto this season.
Defenceman Conor Timmins and forwards Wayne Simmonds and Nick Abruzzese, who was recalled from AHL Toronto on an emergency basis Sunday, will slot into the lineup.
Toronto (45-20-10, 100 points) is coming off a 3-0 win over the Ottawa Senators on Saturday night and looking to lock down second place in the Atlantic Division.
