The NHLPA and NHL on Friday reinstated Detroit Red Wings forward Jakub Vrana after almost two months in the league’s player assistance program. The reinstatement means Vrana returns to available status and has now entered the “follow-up care phase” of the NHL/NHLPA player assistance program. Vrana, 26, was placed in the program on Oct. 19, but the reasons were not specified. He continued to be paid while receiving treatment and care from the NHL and NHLPA. Quebec Major Junior Hockey League commissioner Gilles Courteau announced on Friday that he will be retiring in 2024 after 47 years at the helm. Courteau will stay on as league commissioner for the first six months of the 2023-24 season.
